What age was I when I first met someone?
These were the significant things we revealed about ourselves on the digital holy grail, aka Bebo.
The social media confessional for teenagers back in the day may have disbanded but the cringey memories still live on to make us die another day. Say what you like about the flashbox era, no one could accuse us of holding back when it came to revealing personal information.
No suree, when we bared our skin coloured souls, no stone was left unturned.
1. Your selection of top 16 was a carefully orchestrated process that ranked your pecking order of pals. It needed to be reexamined on a daily basis and if you disappeared from a friend’s top 16.. well there was trouble.

2. Adding arrows to your friends list revealed who your TRUE BFF’s were.
3. If your other half wasn’t your boyfriend or girlfriend, your BFF made the cut. An eloquent nod to your relationship/ friendship was also a must.
4. The way you wrote clearly reflected the standard of books your were reading in ‘skul.’ It read sUmTn LyKe DiS, xx (“,).
Seamus Heaney would be quaking in his boots if he was still alive.

5. Sharing your love and getting pissed off when it wasn’t returned.. we only had one love a day to give, people! (Thankfully they increased your love a day before Bebo’s demise)

6. Your skin was so much more than just wallpaper – it revealed a state of mind, showing your inner most feelings about someone.
7. After ages choosing the right skin, you’d be genuinely annoyed if your friend picked the same one.

8. Admitting you ‘hooked up’ with your Bebo friends was an option for many. When it came to your BFF, it was always faith that brought you together.
9. You created complex quizzes (Where was my favourite holiday? What’s my favourite food) and if your closest pals answered incorrectly, well your entire friendship was called into question.

10. You posted questionnaires that gave people an insight into the real you.
11. Having an album called ‘Me x.’

12. Profile views were a popularity barometer and you’d compare them with your mate to see who had the highest.

13. If you were brave, you posted a ‘Who’s the hottest poll?.’ Pretending you didn’t care, you secretly waited with bated breath to see where you ranked among your mates.

14. You were smug when you got the highest votes.

15. Choosing the perfect flash-box could make or break your cool status. Would it be a rap song? A ballad? A funny video? The pressure was on.
16. Quotes were an important form of self-expression and could be posted in your bio and/or your Bebo skin. A good quote spoke volumes.

17. The ‘About me bio’ really allowed you to flex your oversharing muscles. What you liked and disliked, your favourite music and films; it had it all.
