Irish Secondary School Evacuated Due To A ‘Bomb Scare Today

A school in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon was evacuated this morning following a ‘bomb scare’.

Local gardaí received reports that a suspicious device had been left on the premises of St Nathy’s College this morning. As a result, the school, which has over 700 staff and students, was evacuated for their safety so that the true nature of the device could be ascertained.

The decision was taken to close the school to students for  the remained of the day to ensure their safety. A spokesperson for the school issued a statement regarding the incident.

“Gardai informed us that they had received information that an alleged device had been left on the school premises. A number of Gardai attended the school where a detailed search was conducted and nothing was found. Investigations are ongoing by the Gardai.”

The Gardaí are continuing their investigations surrounding the incident.
