The Lonely Island Are Making A Fyre Festival Musical And Want Andy King To Be Involved

Imagine your deePest, darkest shame. The event in your past which is most likely to spring to mind in the small hours of the night, when you are lying awake in bed, with sleep proving evasive, the wind howling outside. Let the memory slowly fade back into focus, until you are reliving it, until all the sensations of the moment wash back over you, until you can almost smell the rancid odour of the atrocious lasagna you made for your then partner’s parents at that weekend in their house. The horrid lasagna that you knew was undercooked, that you threw out the window in shame. That same fetid lasagna that their award-winning show-dog then ate off the lawn and had to be airlifted to a vet to have its stomach pumped… Your shameful memory may vary.

Well, imagine if, instead of this visceral reaction of self-recrimination and shame at what you consider to be the lowest ebb of your life, you instead embraced it. Embraced it in the knowledge that it may very well afford you an opportunity to appear in a musical that may loosely feature this lowest ebb of yours.

Such is the situation that Andy King finds himself in. For those of you who have yet to watch the astounding Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, Andy King was a senior adviser to the convicted fraudster, Billy McFarland, who created the festival. He was also the teller of one of the greatest anecdotes the Western World has ever seen. He described how he, at one point, was asked by Mr. McFarland to ‘take one for the team’ so as to free up four trucks full of Evian water that were needed for the festival and had been impounded by customs officials in Florida. To ‘take one for the team’ he was asked whether he would fellate the customs official concerned so as to save them having to pay the $175,000 required to release the water. He said that he drove to the customs official’s office fully prepared to do what was required.

Well, now, Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island has announced that he and the other members of the comedy musical group, Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, alongside Seth Rogen, are currently creating a musical loosely based on the events of Fyre Festival. In an interview with The Daily Beast, he said, in response to whether he would want Andy King to be involved with the project, “I would hire that dude for anything… Hire that dude. That guy is a champion.”

He went on to say that the project has been in the works for some time, “I don’t want to divulge all the details but we’re figuring it out right now. You’ve seen the docs, right? It’s crazy. This is something that Akiva and Seth cooked up, and we’re figuring it all out right now.”

Given their combined comedic pedigree, and the success of their musical comedy mockumentary, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, this is sure to be interesting.
