You Will Soon Be Able To Donate With Contactless At Mass

Five Churches in Dublin are trialing a new system to tackle the decrease in donations during collection.

These Churches will roll out this new system by having contactless contributions for anyone who is a tad short on change. Donations have noticeably dropped over the last few years, from 3.1 million in 2016, to 2.4 million in 2017 and the Church is making a stand.

The Church believes people no longer carry around spare change to donate to the Church, and placing a contactless scheme within the Church will eradicate this issue. Churches who already have this in motion in the UK have seen their donations double in four months.

A Spokesperson from the Archdiocese has said:

‘We plan to roll out the ability for the majority of parishes to accept card based payments using a parish payments system.

‘This will cover many transactions and will enable parishioners to sign up for recurring contributions.’

This new system will also allow you to sign up for a debit donation with the Church. So basically, you will be able to subscribe to your local church, setting up a weekly/monthly debit donation, even if you can’t make it to mass that Sunday.

There are more plans to roll out this new payment method to more Churches in the future if they are successful in boosting their donations.

Now all we’re waiting on is Contactless on Dublin bus. Surely it’s not that difficult?
